According to new reports, physical distance and a fizzled romance may have been the culprits behind the recent split of The Weeknd and Selena Gomez.

The reports allege that Gomez and The Weeknd—whose real name is Abel Tesfaye—split a couple of weeks ago, and that the decision was Tesfaye’s.

TMZ writes that the 10-month relationship had been slowly losing steam for a few months due to conflicting schedules and distance before the rapper ended things by phone.

“They had rarely seen each other because of his touring schedule and her shooting schedule. They started talking less frequently on the phone,” the report read.

(A harsh detail notes that Tesfaye “felt unfairly tied down in a relationship that had lost its passion”. Ouch.)

In any case, Gomez’s recently rekindled interest in her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber—who she was spotted dining, riding bikes and hanging out with twice in the past two days—was apparently not a factor in their breakup. “Justin's apparent reignited relationship with Selena didn't start until after she and The Weeknd went their separate ways,” the report reads.

Since the news of the breakup broke, Tesfaye has been spotted cosying up to a girl at a recent show, so it doesn’t look like there are too many hard feelings about the
